A trip to Novi Pazar is not complete without an excursion, however short or long, into the surrounding countryside, where the hills and rivers of the Ibar Valley meet the heights of Pešter Plateau. Novi Pazar has a wide range of hiking options located just outside of the city for both beginner and advanced hikers. Pristine hiking areas are accessible in the areas around Sopoćani Monastery, Đurđevi Stupovi, Gradina, and more. Hikers can explore the ruins of Stari Ras and ancient Illyrian settlements amidst untouched hills and forests with sublime views of the surrounding countryside. Many hiking areas can be accessed by foot from the center of Novi Pazar, and visitors are encouraged to explore the hills that surround the city from any direction.
